REQUIRED SAT PREP MATERIALS

The best SAT prep books and a few by us as well!

Note: as of 10/16/13 all prep books are included free with your group class - but here’s a bit of background as well as a link to the best vocabulary book if you want to get started early (very smart!):

From the desk of Christian Heath, lead instructor:

I’ve researched, worked in, gotten feedback on, and studied with dozens of SAT prep books and material (and I literally mean “dozens,” as you’ll probably notice when you first show up at the office), and the books I use are on the cutting edge of SAT testing; most of them have been updated into new editions within the last year or two.

One thing I’ve noticed in my study is that different SAT prep books ALL have weaknesses, but not all of them have strengths! I think that’s because very few writers are able to master all the different topics contained within the SAT.

To combat this problem, I currently use several different SAT prep books, including my own textbooks and practice sets. This allows our lessons to draw from a wide variety of schools of thought, professional SAT strategists, and SAT question types.

If you really want to get started EARLY (not a bad idea!), then you can order this book on SAT Vocabulary and start learning new words by spending 15 minutes per day making your own flashcards and studying them. If you want to wait instead, we’ll give you a copy at the first lesson.

“If you can only get one book before our first lesson, it should be Larry Krieger’s Essential Critical Reading and Vocabulary on Amazon.com”

Also, don’t forget to bring to every lesson:

Your best school calculator

Several pencils!

(Pens are fine for personal notes, but not for classwork or homework, to replicate the real test)

Water or a drink, if you would like

A spiral notebook, for notepaper as well as scratch paper.
