Note: Since writing this review, we’ve released our own SAT Math prep textbook in two volumes. It’s far more complete than any other SAT math book in the world - including Pwn the SAT - with more practice, lessons, and strategies to get your highest SAT Math score ever.

Mike McClenathan’s Pwn the SAT: Math Guide has proven indispensable to my work as an SAT prep tutor. Whether I’m working with a student who dreads math or a student looking for greater math challenges, McClenathan’s book is my go-to prep guide. Here are a few reasons why:

1) It’s exhaustive—not exhausting

McClenathan breaks the SAT math section into large and small concepts. The book is comprehensive, with detailed chapters on numbers and operations, algebra and functions, data analysis, statistics, probability, and geometry. Each concept is explained and then tested, and since McClenathan cross-references the Blue Book, it’s easy to find real SAT questions that test each concept for targeted practice.

2) It’s the opposite of boring

From the book’s name to the lively handwriting and incisive wit that dominate it, the Pwn the SAT: Math Guide feels like the farthest thing from a textbook. McClenathan’s voice comes across as young, hip, and ironic, and the effect is such that students have the sense of being guided by an older brother rather than a stodgy old professor.

3) It’s a book for students of all skill levels

With one-on-one tutoring, practice tests, and the Pwn the SAT: Math Guide, students of all skill levels can raise their SAT math scores. Low scores rise to above-average scores once basic concepts are mastered and applied. High scorers, too, can up their game—sometimes to perfection—by staying sharp with McClenathan’s more-than-challenging math drills.

4) It works

The true measure of an SAT prep resource’s value is its ability to produce real, tangible results. Commit yourself to going on a journey with this book and that’s precisely what you’ll get. McClenathan often posts comments he’s received from students who have used his book to improve their skills. “Couldn’t have done it without you,” one student writes, after scoring a 2400. He’s not alone!
